In contrast to commercial research laboratories we are guided
by the notion that fundamental research should be independent
and transdisciplinary. Only this guarantees this basis for
creative brainstorming and innovative ideas.
In
this context, we also evaluate research proposals with regard
to their compatibility with the ideas of a sustainable development
and their chances of being supported by national and international
research funds.
We
furthermore foster research initiatives with low-income countries
and serve as a platform for scientific dialogue and networking.
These
activities underline our leitmotiv to promote free and independent
research and to combine it with teaching and education in
an open transparent way.
